I don’t see how a tax fraud in 2005 can be prosecuted in 2018.

The five counts of tax evasion Manifort was convicted of were for 2010-2014, inclusive. The statute of limitations for tax evasion is 6 years, running (usually) from the date the tax return is filed (so the statute of limitations for 2010 started running in 2011).

I guess I missed the dates, my memory was that he was not working for Ukraine those last years.
