I know quite a number of farmers , including some big muckity-muck Republicans , who also shamelessly hire illegal Hispanics . With a wink and a nod , ultimately all that s important to them is getting their crops picked and sold regardless of any incidental law breaking .
They hire a landed immigrant ‘labor broker ‘ , some Mex with a green card , who then goes out and rounds up the illegal laborers themselves . They perform the work and the check for their work is paid to the ‘broker’ honcho dude , who then pays them for their work , minus ‘ a fee’ . All the broker has to do is be prepared to say how he alone was able to pick all those crops and make all that money himself . Probably they are rarely , if ever , audited .
And so it goes . Even upstanding Republican farmers do this. It’s shameless ( and illegal)
