Kavanaugh argued that a president can be impeached for lies, cover-ups and refusing to testify
The Los Angeles Times ^ | August 25th, 2108 | By David G. Savage

The young attorney decided the president deserved to be forced from office for “his pattern of revolting behavior” and the “sheer number of his wrongful acts.”

“The president has disgraced his office.… He has lied to his aides. He has lied to the American people,” Brett Kavanaugh wrote in a 1998 memo to his colleagues. “I’m strongly opposed to giving [him] any ‘break’ … unless he either resigns or … issues a public apology.”

Kavanaugh, a fast-rising Republican legal star, then 33, went back to work on a 132-page memo to his boss, independent counsel Kenneth Starr, that outlined the grounds for impeaching President Clinton.

It was 20 years ago this month that Kavanaugh, President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, set out his broad view of obstruction of justice and of what constitutes an impeachable offense, arguing the president could be removed from office even for a rarely charged crime — in this case, lying under oath in a civil deposition, to deny a sexual affair with a 22-year-old White House intern. By repeating false stories for months, lying to the public and his aides, trying to cover up the affair with Monica Lewinsky and helping her find a job in New York, the president, Kavanaugh argued, engaged in “a conspiracy to obstruct justice.”

Now as Kavanaugh prepares to go before the Senate on Sept. 4 for his confirmation hearing, there is again talk of impeachment in Washington.

Thank goodness and POTUS Trump this man is correct on the Constitution.

Congress can define High Crimes and Misdemeanors any way they damn well please.

As long as they have the votes for it.

A POTUS can be impeached and removed for farting in church.

One would think that based on this “news” article the Democrats/Leftists will vote to confirm ... but because they don’t follow the la Times either this is probably unlikely.

and Congressvermin can be arrested for their crimes, too. They can’t be arrested for civil matters while Congress is in session, but they CAN be arrested for criminal activities.

That was almost clever.

And isn’t what he argued.

In the fullness of his theory, he was discussing subjorning perjury and that he would be willing to forgive K rinton if he apologized.

The young attorney decided the president deserved to be forced from office for “his pattern of revolting behavior” and the “sheer number of his wrongful acts.”>>>>>>>>>>>

Then how did Obama manage to survive two terms without impeachment .

Obama Lie: “ If you want to keep your doctor, you can keep your doctor!” resulted in fraudulently obtained public support of Obamacare.”

Obama revolting behavior: Obama was filmed picking his nose in public, and removing or sealing all records of his university and law practice careers .The list goes on.

By virtue of the young attorneys conclusions, every president who has served in office should be impeached.

Instead of High crime and Misdemeanors, we have Sly Mimes and Missing Wieners.

Impeaching is one thing; getting the votes to convict is quite another.

It does not matter.

A President can be impeached and removed for farting in church if the Congress has the will/votes for it.

Yes they could but cannot if the House and Senate remains Republican and the Republicans go with Trump. That's the real problem, keeping control.

Sly Mimes and Missing Wieners, nice. Obama would be notably guilty if the missing wiener thing. He could hide a wiener in places not naturally reserved for such things.

David Savage was one of the Commie Mitt-lickers catching spears thrown at Rapin Bill Clinton during the impeachment wars.

I guess the worm has turned for David, and he reveals his DNC "news activist" role in the News Misleadia.

Time to throw spears at Trump for his team, the Democrat Party.

Savage was the catspaw used by The Los Angeles Times to sue Free Republic back in the day...

The House of Representatives can vote to bring articles of impeachment with a simple majority, for anything the majority considers to be an impeachable offense. Those are the rules of the Constitution. So far in our nation's history, we've mostly avoided this kind of circus, but the Democrats and the left wing have been howling for impeachment since Trump's inauguration day - they have never needed grounds for impeachment, they will simply impeach him. These are the new ground-rules, and the weaklings of the GOPe had better get used to them, and react accordingly.

The Senate tries the impeachment, however, and removal of a president through impeachment is another thing altogether, as Bill Clinton showed. I expect Trump to serve out his entire two terms.

“””Kavanaugh argued that a president can be impeached for lies, cover-ups and refusing to testify”””

So the LA Times is saying that 100% of the Democrat Senators will vote to approve Kavanaugh.

We should embrace what happened with Clinton as precedent. The Democrats can’t impeach Trump if they didn’t support Clinton’s impeachment when he broke the law to cover up a sexual affair.

A'yup. Impeachment is political in nature, not legal/criminal.

That said, actions have consequences. Should the Dimwits take the House, I hope they consider that before they do anything that we'll all regret.

Then how did Obama manage to survive two terms without impeachment .

The pubbies recognized that they lacked the votes to convict. What good is an impeachment if you can't also remove?

The reverse is true too. A president that shoots someone in the middle of fifth avenue may not be impeached if the votes aren’t there.

He was speaking to both subjoining perjury and in general lying, covering up and refusing to testify.

Why did Obama survive? No one on the right had the balls to charge him in the House and then have the House have hearings.
