John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizona’s senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

The diarrhea-like torrent of praise has already made me sick. And attacks on the President for “merely” offering condolences rather than fell*ting the corpse. This game that people play....I can well understand why the LEFT should be singing his praises. Who knew he was like the greatest person ever? Shall we build him a monument? They want to rename the Russell building after him. Shall we build him a monument? Perhaps a statue of some gang members crossing the Rio Grande while he helps pull in their boat?
A former Senator died a few weeks ago, Paul Laxalt, a far better man, and his passing got approximately 0.01% of the attention this will. Shameful.
Hero was he? I feel bad for the torture he endured (of his own choosing because he refused to be released for silly macho reasons) but the word is cheapened when ascribed to those who haven’t done anything heroic. What heroic feats did he perform? Other than his superhuman feat of making Dubya and Romney look better in comparison of course.
Great man? He was a nasty man who was rude to everyone when the cameras were off. I will compare him to Gandhi, who was a genuine piece of crap human being (far worse than McCain) and yet “beloved”.
When faced with losing to Obama instead of doing what he had to in order to win (even after the financial crisis he would have had a chance if he had done what was necessary ie savage Mr. DingleBarry) he chose to ingratiate himself to the media by giving his blessing to Obama (”Don’t be afraid”, and introducing him at the Al Smith dinner in Mid-October, what has he even doing there?!). That was unforgivable. Even if he HAD been a “war hero” that would have cancelled it out.
Hard to find a worse GOP nominee. To whom to we look back to? Hapless Jerry Ford? Wilkie wasn’t really a Republican but he ran a strong race. Alf Landon?
His hallmark legislative accomplishment was an attempt to kneecap his own party’s fundraising.
And the coup de grace, he votes to keep Obamacare, probably more out of petty hatred for President Trump than any kind of conviction. And he left the Senate GOP shorthanded while he died, one final middle finger to the President and the American people.
To sum it up, he was an egomaniac who only his family should have reason to mourn.
May God almighty have mercy on his soul. And may the Governor make a swift appointment of someone who DOES NOT SHARE HIS LAST NAME.
For the past 10 months all of the “McCain” political comments were done by his wife, daughter, or staff.

Just to let you know Caddis flies are really great fish food, trout love them, both the larva and adult flies.
I don’t understand her complaint about a large Caddis fly hatch being an environmental problem, Caddis fly larva are an aquatic species until they hatch.
Never heard of adult Caddis flies being a problem; they don’t eat crops, they don’t suck blood, they don’t eat wood.
Guess she just had to many attracted to her porch lights and just doesn’t like bugs.
As a matter of interest I have been tying my own dry and wet flies for about 55 years and always found a heavy hatch year to be the greatest gift a fly fisherman could ever get.

He was a con man and a crook, but what I will remember most about him was the temper tantrum he threw when he didn’t get the nomination in 2000.
If I recall correctly he basically called all of us who didn’t vote for him bastards and the rest of Americans ignorant assholes.
