Why would Mexicans born in Texas get a US Passport/ID? They can go to their consulate and get one. Because if they were born in Texas, they are U.S. citizens.

No they aren't. Just because we've been misreading the law for decades doesn't mean we still should. Diplomat's kids don't get US citizenship, and they're even legally here.
