Initial report showed two quakes about 10 minutes apart within a few miles of each other. Now the list has one only. Still, a single 6.6 is bad enough.
It happened on the island where Sapporo (Winter Olympic site) is located.

And there is a direct correlation between earthquakes and hurricanes.

Older article, but, I think still relevant.

Only 6? Not to worry, nuclear plants are built to withstand an 8.

Folks, when I posted this there were TWO 6+ earthquakes listed on the USGS site, a few miles apart and ten minutes in between. That had been confirmed earlier by an automatic alert I get from one of my twitter feeds.
Shortly after that post, the listing for one of the two was deleted. Therefore this is not as significant, news wise, as I implied originally. (Still it wasn’t pleasant for the people sitting right on top of it, I imagine)

Extremely quiet on the West Coast.

In fact, if you go to the USGS website there have not been any 2.5 or higher quakes in the last 24 hours....From Alaska all the way to Ecuador!.
