Federer is 37 years old. The U.S. Open has always been tough for older players to win. He hasn’t won it in 10 years.
Not to mention they built a dome over the courts and he complained about the ventilation. Federer said he “could not catch his breath” in the facility after it had been modified.
In regards to the heat, I can’t imagine he doesn’t play in hotter places around the world, like Spain and Dubai, than New York.
