I found out when the IRS and the state told me I had already filed my taxes and gotten a big refund.
Then they went after ME for taxes on the unreported tax refund!
No attempt ever made to prosecute the real illegal alien criminals, even though they knew the address and bank account number of the illegal.
The prep school where I was teaching did a very expensive (and extensive) background check. We are in Texas, so I wasn’t the only one. Took over a year and lots of steps to clear it.
I was worried about ID and credit theft. There is a direct connection between them, If people knew that, they would be screaming for laws to be enforced.
