How does a party in the US run on tax hikes and get elected?

Just curious...do they have "trust funds" in Canada? There are many,*many* Baby Boomers living within 40 miles of I-95 and I-5 (IOW,the east and West Coasts) who have them.It means that they're living off of Mommy's and Daddy's legacy.Add to that the huge number of welfare parasites living in those same places and you have "yes, absolutely raise taxes".

Just as an aside...in Massachusetts there's a line on the state income tax return that gives a taxpayer the option to pay his taxes at a rate *higher* than that required by state law.IOW,you're able to "donate" money to the state.

In a state of about 6 million,a state that's elected the likes of Teddy,John Kerry and Princess Liawatha, only about 200 returns a year have that box checked.

Phonies! I assume you have them Up North as well.

Yes I agree. Those rich liberals that complain they don’t pay enough taxes can always tick that box. Canada’s problem is so many live off the state. So phonies like David Suzuki only exist because of our taxpayer funded Canadian Broadcasting Company. National Magazine like Macleans also get some federal funding. There is even talk on the deep left to bail out liberal newspapers (which is pretty much all of them) that are failing.

On the American side of things, Michael Moore uses Canadian grants in some of his documentaries!!!

Canada basically funds Quebec companies like Bombardier and so corporate welfare is a big thing here. We also bail out, like you guys did, the auto industry. Which creates a real regional divide. The West gets nothing - no bail outs. But Ontario and Quebec get them.

This will take your breath away. My Grandma, god bless her, was a young grandma, so she married an American who was at least 20 years her senior. He died in about 3 years after they married and now she collects Social Security!!!

My father and step mom are one of the Canadians you speak of. They are not trust fund babies. They both were public school teachers, which make good money in Canada. So now have a place in Palm Springs. Both very liberal. They better keep an eye on Trudeau though. You never know. He could piss Trump up enough that Trump could really make things difficult for Canadian travelers. Maybe shorten the stay from 6 months to 4 months? As for taxes I am guessing the only American taxes they would pay would be sales taxes? Unless there is some property tax component on their place in Palm Springs?
