Because if the FBI investigates, then she might have a few details to fabricate a story around. That's my take on it. Otherwise, she will blame the FBI of inaction and slink back into her hole in California and this nomination can proceed.
Her lawyer is only interested in helping the Dems delay....the last thing they really want is for the FBI to do a thorough investigation of Ford.
