Actually, it’s starting to look LESS like a setup than a Keystone Kops operation that is falling apart under even minimal scrutiny. Putting all these “witnesses” into the story just made it easier to blow holes in it. When your “corroborating witnesses” don’t corroborate your story, you look like a damn fool.

The “plan” was that Repubs, being the usual idiots they have been, would immediately withdraw the Judge’s nomination at the first whiff of scandal. Only this time the Repubs had Trump in their corner, a guy who actually has a set, and who does not shy away from a fight. I don’t doubt that the Dems were somewhat shocked that the Repubs didn’t withdraw the nomination, and have been making up a case for rape on the fly ever since.
