Even before President Trump’s election, hatred had begun to emerge on the American left—counterintuitively, as an assertion of guilelessness and moral superiority. At the Women’s March in Washington the weekend after Mr. Trump’s inauguration, the pop star Madonna said, “I have thought an awful lot of blowing up the White House.” Here hatred was a vanity, a braggadocio meant to signal her innocence of the sort of evil that, in her mind, the White House represented. (She later said the comment was “taken wildly out of context.”)
For many on the left a hateful anti-Americanism has become a self-congratulatory lifestyle. “America was never that great,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently said. For radical groups like Black Lives Matter, hatred of America is a theme of identity, a display of racial pride.
For other leftists, hate is a license. Conservative speakers can be shouted down, even assaulted, on university campuses. Republican officials can be harassed in restaurants, in the street, in front of their homes. Certain leaders of the left—Rep. Maxine Waters comes to mind—are self-appointed practitioners of hate, urging their followers to think of hatred as power itself.
How did the American left—conceived to bring more compassion and justice to the world—become so given to hate? It began in the 1960s, when America finally accepted that slavery and segregation were profound moral failings. That acceptance changed America forever. It imposed a new moral imperative: America would have to show itself redeemed of these immoralities in order to stand as a legitimate democracy.

We allowed ourselves to be second class citizens when affirmative action became (and remained) the law of the land. While Obama will be remembered for the disastrous socialized medicine we have now (since Republicans won’t repeal it), another of his main goals was to protect affirmative action - and he did that. They are fine-tuning it, removing first Asians, and eventually white women, but we will end up with blacks maintained in the same way as American Indians - permanent wards of the state, no expectations allowed.
Here in NJ white libs are really seeing the costs of open borders; we have an anti-gun Sikh as attorney general, and two anti-white “minorities” (Booker, Menendez) representing us in the Senate. Of course, we have a millionaire white lib as governor, too...
If people were “fat, dumb, and happy” Hillary would have trounced Trump; they certainly aren’t “happy”. While they may be ill-informed, many can’t afford to retire; if they ever had 401Ks, too many drained them trying to maintain a 1980s standard of living in a 1930s economy. Recover is happening, but it is slow and regional; that is why ethnic malcontents are able to commandeer the Democratic Party.
Yes you have Menendez and Booker, but has your governor ever said that you are “not welcome” in his state? Well look next door at your neighbor, Gov. Cuomo. He said that conservatives are not welcome in his state. Did you know it was “his” state?
The northeast is lost and I am sorry for you and all of my friends back in New York.
We here in Florida have our own AA problem in the form of a Socialist Democrat running for governor. So far polls are showing he is leading. He scares the heck out of me, but apparently he appeals to many. We need our own country if we are to survive.
Yes, NY is a mess; they’ve been reduced to offering “free” college to anyone in exchange for indentured servitude for the same number of years “free” college was given (see “Excelsior Scholarship Program”). Two of my children are benefiting from scholarships here in NJ, but they have no strings attached - they are merit-based. Basically both states are losing young productive people due to lack of opportunity, but NY has to resort to more desperate measures to keep young people there - they need someone to work the low-paying jobs serving the non-working welfare population and government worker caste (preparing their food, ringing up their SNAP/WIC purchases, filling their prescriptions, etc.). Here in NJ they’ve just trafficked in young Asians and Hispanics to do many of these things.
The Founding Fathers didn’t just exclude blacks and women from voting; they excluded any NON-TAXPAYERS, as they understood they had no real stake in the new country. They rallied against “taxation without representation”, while we now suffer with “representation without taxation” - which is driving your socialist candidate down there. The Dem Party in NJ (which controls completely now) is also socialist, but channels revenues towards the government worker caste instead of gibsmedats. This whole region is screwed as companies and their talent pick up and flee; it is harder and harder to find competent workers anywhere. While some may want to stay and tough it out, the employers see no point in it - there are plenty of other more business-friendly states, many of which don’t have a century of entitlement burdens to impede progress.
The accumulated pension/healthcare costs of government workers in both of these states, as well as CA, ensure that business is doomed here - and the best and brightest people can see that moving here just buys a piece of a MASSIVE IOU. As more and more revenue has to be directed towards those costs, you pay higher and higher taxes for less and less services; the infrastructure is starting to look like Nairobi. Nothing has been maintained since “the British” left...
