Austin restaurants can no longer throw away food
KXAN-TV, Austin, TX ^ | October 2, 2018 (updated) | Kate Winkle

Posted on 10/02/2018 8:17:15 PM PDT by Carl Vehse

Starting Monday, Austin restaurants and food businesses have to come up with alternatives to tossing extra food in the trash.

The city hopes businesses donate the extra food to those in need, but they could also give it to local farms or compost it. It's part of the Universal Recycling Ordinance, which the city hopes will help reach its Zero Waste by 2040 goal.

If you donate it and someone gets so much as a tummy ache you will be sued from here to Timbuktu.

Pig farmers used to take it but now that everyone has to do this you are going to have to pay them to do so.

As for composting you are going to have to pay people to do that too.

For composting you will have to separate the meat scraps and arrange for them to be disposed of separately. Of course you will have to separate that from the non-food trash.

And what do you do with the items that are both food and non-food? Boxes that held meat or eggs are usually not allowed in recycling bins but though they are generally tainted with their contents they are not food items either.

wait a minute.....

If Austin is a liberal Shangri-La, then why is there any homeless or hungry that they need to enact this?

Apparently the People's Socialist Kakistocracy of Austin believes it can overrule the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

For many years my tagline at the VA was "Entropy is proof of management" Someone in the IT department finally figured out what I was saying and they made me take it down.

Homeless shelter food poisoning cases in 3, 2, 1...

I thought that already happened in the past, and is why they stopped giving food to them.

It’s not as if food decomposes overnight, you know.

South Korea is better off than we are, on the whole. Of course that poem was composed a long time ago.

Years ago my friend attended McDonald’s management training, “Hamburger University”. They through away prepared food every hour. He thought that was wasteful and they should donate it. He didn’t get the job.

I was at Costco some years back and I saw a Woman return a large Rib Roast that cost around $80. Beautiful Cut of Beef.

I asked the person who was helping me what they do with it, thinking it went to Charity. She said no, they had to throw it away. I told her I would take it and she laughed. What a waste.

I’m still trying to figure out how People actually return Meat. There was nothing wrong with it, they just changed their minds. I can’t believe Costco lets people do that.

I am all in favor of reducing food waste but there are valid public health reasons for not giving unused food for human consumption.
