RALPH: Ive always followed that old adage: Be kind to people you meet on the way up, because youre going to meet the same people on the way down.
ED: Happens to me every day in the sewer.
I call BS...typical unionized LIB big city BS...typical.
13 hours/day X 6 days/week.....
In my younger years I had 2 jobs, 49 hours/week on main job, and 12 hours/week on a part time consulting job.
But that adds up to only 61 hours/week. I was in my late 20’s early 30’s and I was totally EXHAUSTED at end of day. But I was working hard all the time, creating expert software for design of large machines and test running it on large computers which used punched cards in those days.
This dude with 78 hours/week may be simply sitting at a monitoring station, watching flow in sewer systems. Hardly very creative work, plenty of time to chat on cell phone or listen to music/radio.
I would scub a firebox or crankcase over the bilge any day of the week.
A fellow from north Jersey I worked with years ago was all hot about getting hired as a building inspector for Jersey City. He said that the bribes alone would make him wealthy!
