SCHOHARIE, N.Y. -- The limousine involved in a deadly crash that killed 20 people Saturday in Schoharie should not have been on the road, according Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo told reporters this morning in New York City that the vehicle failed a state inspection last month. Cuomo also said the limousine driver did not have a proper license for the vehicle.
The crash -- the nation's worst transportation disaster in nearly a decade -- occurred at about 2 p.m. Saturday in Schoharie, about 35 miles west of Albany. A limousine carrying 17 people on their way to celebrate a 30th birthday blew through a stop sign and slammed into a parked SUV outside a store. The driver, 17 passengers and two pedestrians were killed.
The limousine was a 2001 Ford Excursion limousine from Prestige Limousine, according to ABC News. Scott Lisinicchia was identified at the limousine driver, according to CBS News.

I don’t understand how this vehicle was even on the road. My POS Dodge Grand Caravan failed inspection and the dealer wouldn’t let me take it home. They held it until the defects were repaired. Hopefully we’ll get more details.
He should be.
Prayers for all.
I heard that among the dead, were a group of sisters and husbands. My God, can you imagine being a family planning multiple funerals? Prayers for everyone.
When you start changing a vehicle’s weight, distribution, chassis geometry, etc. - the calculus gets very complicated on components like brakes, steering, chassis/suspension, tires, etc. Leaving everything the same except for the extended length is a recipe for disaster. Very few of the shops creating these Franken-limos have anywhere close to the automotive engineering talent required to properly execute the job.
Curious that the owner hasn’t been named in the article.
” limousine was a 2001 Ford Excursion...”
What the...? A 17 year old vehicle? That’s clue #1
Stretch limos are the new Duck Boat.
No company’s name
No owners names
No driver’s name
?????
Was the driver’s name Mohammed?
Ooops going on what was available last nighy.
My bad.
this is NY...people, including lots of illegals, regularly drive without required insurance, etc and nothing is done...
Ooops, my bad. Driver’s name is Scott Lisinicchia. Was he gettin’ busy in the front seat?
Are you kidding? It’s NYS. We have three kinds of drivers licenses in this state. Illegals can drive uninsured without a prob. Cuomo could have done something about this after the 2015 limo crash. But he didn’t. Now Cuomo’s engaged in major butt-covering and damage control.

Scott Lisinicchia has been identified as the limo driver involved in the deadly crash in upstate New York on October 6, 2018. The mans twin brother reportedly went to the scene of the crash and spoke with reporters.
Michael Benny of WTVH-TV shared the update on Twitter. He wrote, Man identifies himself as twin brother of limo driver says Scott Lisinicchia, 53 was behind wheel. Headed to Cooperstown when limo crashed in Schoharie, NY Saturday. 20 killed.
Lisinicchia was originally from Ballston Spa, New York, and lived in Lake George. Police have not said what limo company Lisinicchia was working for. Authorities were reportedly looking into whether the brakes malfunctioned.
I just heard a NTSB Talking Head saying that there are no across-the-board safety standards for any vehicle that you drive off the lot, then ‘customize,’ and normally the customizing reduces the tensile integrity and strength of the vehicle in case of a crash
Sadly, that seems to be part of this.
Prayers up. How awful for everyone left behind. :(
Driver’s name is Scott Lisinicchia. In the comments section of the article the owner is said to be Shaheed Hussain but I haven’t seen this in the news reporting.
Story at link woefully low on details (none)
I would like to know how fast he was going.
Business looks like it was failing & shady..
That limo shouldnt have been on the road!
Im thinking brake failure but a modified vehicle that old, couldve been multiple mechanical failures.
How tragic & sad for those families ;(
