WASHINGTON — It was this week two years ago that Hillary Clinton’s victory looked assured, when the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape of Donald Trump bragging about sexual assault appeared all but certain to end his campaign.
Jesse Ferguson remembers it well. The deputy press secretary for Clinton’s campaign also remembers what happened a month later.
It’s why this veteran Democratic operative can’t shake the feeling that, as promising as the next election looks for his party, it might still all turn out wrong. “Election Day will either prove to me I have PTSD or show I’ve been living deja vu,” Ferguson said. “I just don’t know which yet.”
Ferguson is one of many Democrats who felt the sting of unexpected defeat in 2016 and are now closely — and nervously — watching the current election near its end, wondering if history will repeat itself. This year, instead of trying to win the presidency, Democrats are trying to gain 23 House seats and win a majority. The anxiety isn’t universal, with many party leaders professing confidently and repeatedly that this year really is different.
But even some of them acknowledge the similarities between the current and previous election: President Trump is unpopular and beset by scandal, Democrats hold leads in the polls, and some Republicans are openly pessimistic.

The culture, technology and conservative’s willingness to talk about their views, have changed so much that polling is now no different than reading chicken bones. There is no longer a scientific way to predict any outcome.

I don’t think it would be endless. In only a year or two they’d have annihilated (perhaps literally) everyone who is the slightest threat. The witch hunts and baseless accusations would end then.
They absolutely cannot win in November. It would be the end of us.

Around here, they’re splitting persimmon seeds to see what kind of winter it will be. It seems you either see a fork, knife or spoon shape in the middle of the seed and this year it’s spoon. That means digging — snow.
A couple of years ago there were lots of big acorns dropping this time of year. That meant long cold winter. It was short and mild.
I think polling is as reliable as acorn. I can’t judge the persimmon seed thing yet because it’s the first I’ve heard of it.
Predicting the climate, meteorological or political is not an easy thing.

Yeah right. Beset by scandal according to the MSM but it’s all faux scandal and they try to project that to the masses but the masses ain’t buying it.
Since 2016 we have the #walkaway movement due to the insanity on the left. Trump approval rating(on paper) from Hispanics and Blacks has doubled/tripled since 2016.
That right there would seal the deal if it were a presidential election and in some ways it is. Mid terms never have the turnout that the general does but I’ve never seen the stats as far as who’s turnout is higher, dem or repub. Still, stats, trends and polls don’t apply anymore.
I think we’ll be alright. I think turnout will be high for repubs. It’s mostly a matter of how high the turnout is for dems and how much voter fraud there is.
Everyone who supports President Trump is a threat to them. Especially gun owners. They will not stop until we are disarmed, or they are defeated.

Even if they do, they won’t be able to turn the party around in time for Trump’s shellacking of them in 2020.
By 2022, they *might* claw back to control of the House if they somehow get their new version of the DLC together soon enough, but I’m betting on their being very much on the Reagan/Bush/Clinton schedule and Trump’s legacy winning the GOP a third consecutive presidential term before the Dems take the WH again.
Of course, for this lovely scenario to hold Trump and the GOP are going to have to seriously pick up their pace of cleaning up and enforcing our immigration laws...
