GOP Senate candidate Geoff Diehl is being backed today by Vice President Mike Pence in the first concrete sign of national support for the Whitman state rep.
The Diehl campaign tells the Herald today that the vice president is putting out a fund-raising appeal around noon asking Republican donors to help the underdog candidate in his quest to topple U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
A copy of that email blast obtained by the Herald states, in part: "As we rapidly approach the pivotal 2018 midterm elections, one race stands out: commonsense conservative Massachusetts Republican Geoff Diehl's challenge against radical leftist Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren."
Pence quickly mentions Warren's 2020 presidential ambitions and says Diehl is the first line of defense against her likely candidacy against President Trump.
"Imagine sending Geoff Diehl to Capitol Hill and delivering a huge blow to Elizabeth Warren's national political aspirations with a great Massachusetts Senate victory on Election Day," Pence writes in the email.
The welcome nod from the conservative vice president is a boost to Diehl's campaign and comes just hours after Gov. Charlie Baker fumbled a question about his support for his fellow Massachusetts Republican. At a debate last night, Baker first said he hasn't made up his mind if he'll vote for Diehl on Nov. 6. After the debate, Baker told reporters he misspoke and will vote for Diehl. (See that story here...)
The Pence fund-raising pitch also follows just days after Warren released results of a controversial DNA test she says proves her claims of Native American roots. (See the latest coverage here...) That has been a major talking point for Trump, who often calls Warren "Pocahontas."
The VP's cash-appeal also shows Diehl is now getting some of the help other Republicans are enjoying as the party fights to keep hold of its 51-49 seat advantage in the U.S. Senate.
Pence adds in the email: "Elizabeth Warren is leading the Democrats' hyper-partisan obstruction of our desperately-needed America First agenda on Capitol Hill.
"She's also desperate to stay at the extreme left edge of the increasingly socialist Democrat Party, calling for the President's impeachment and the abolishment of I.C.E. America's dedicated Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel," he adds.
The VP then urges potential donors to seize on this "huge opportunity."
And, Pence signals, taking on Warren in her own back yard is an early test of a potential 2020 showdown as the Bay State senior senator gains traction nationwide.
When Governor Baker was asked if he was voting for Diehl during a debate last night he said he wasn’t sure.
Sounds like the governor’s a real jerk.
Better late than never
He is totally a d-bag
aka...a place for hare-brained creatures

Home state paper sticking up for their squaw. Fauxahontas is gaining traction? Shes sinking faster than the Titanic. While I believe she will retain her Senate seat she can kiss her presidential chances goodbye!
“He is totally a d-bag”
He’d have to be in order for MA democrats to vote for him.
Pence must have some polling intel that Diehl is making a move against Warren. Were this not the case, I don’t think he’d bother.
How hard is it to say, “It’s apparent now that Warren impersonated a minority for monetary and professional gain, and I do not believe that she should be in the US Senate. I will be voting for Diehl.”
Wouldn’t it be a hoot to defeat Lizzi right there on her own reservation?
I see a lot of Diehl signs around the South Shore area of Ma. He may not win, but I think he will do better than other candidates have in the past.

Running for Pres.,she will be as successful as her fellow Mass.-associated candidates: Mike Dukakis, Paul Tsongas, Mitt Romney, and John Kerry.
At Wellesley College, Hillary’s alma mater, students say this will not canvass for Warren as she has engaged in cultural appropriation.
New TV ad for Baker cites praise from Dem. mayors. One says “He’s not a D, or an R, or an I.He’s an H—for human.”
Baker faces Dem Jay Gonzalez.Baker is very popular in Dem. and Independent (unenrolled)-heavy Massachusetts
I will buy a lottery ticket, and I will vote for Diehl. The odds of either of these bets really paying off are a little slim, but either one would be real sweet.
Funny, I noticed that too. Here in my corner of southern central Massachusetts, I see Diehl signs all over. I have not seen one Warren sign in my town (lots of Warren signs when she ran against Scott Brown).
I am hoping against hope, and praying not to have the Bobbleheaded Warren as our Senator (or dogcatcher for that matter).
