You’d think so! But companies lose thousands to scams like this. They’ll call a retailer and try to do ‘test’ transactions or activate cards over the phone. You can’t trust “caller id” and they might make threats to get you to comply.
The worker then relayed the gift card information to the scammer and returned to the restaurant, the release stated.
That makes no sense.
