She used to THINK she was a liberal, but her show was surprisingly conservative.
It dealt with modern issues, but from a family basis, not forcing liberalism on everyone;
I started viewing it from Season 1 right after she was canned, and I’m at the start of Season 4 now. A lot of it transcends politics and just explores the human dimension to problems. She’s in agony about it, but is getting Becky the pill, and persuading Dan not to kill her boyfriend. But they’re obviously torn up about it, but the motive for their forbearance is accentuated by a crying baby off camera. It’s what a lot of parents go through and have gone through for a long time, and have been forced to deal with it. Impossible not to identify and sympathize, even if you think they should shut her up in a convent. That’s beyond conservative or liberal. Like you say, it’s from a family basis. And they manage to be funny while wrestling with a big issue like that. Disney might as well have fired Shakespeare for making a bad tweet. This show will live on long after Roseanne herself is dead. But until then, I don’t think she’s finished by any stretch. We’ll be hearing from her.
