The press dishonestly promoted them as Jewish leaders for political expediency. IMO it's not quite the Protocols, but dishonestly attributing a position to the Jewish community in the context of a politically charged issue borders on antisemitism. The disrespect of the value of Jewish life from much of the media is a given.
