This election is everything to Nancy. She is getting too old and suffering from dementia, if she doesn’t get a majority and the speakership Tuesday, she may as well retire.
She has no way of knowing this; no way of guaranteeing anything.
Her bold statement means she has decided to go big, and if the Democrats take the house, she looks like a smart, confident leader.
And if the Dims lose, she squares it all by resigning; and dropping out of sight until she is rehabilitated.
Net: she thinks the Dims will lose and is making a desperate attempt to bail water with her shoe. She probably has the outline of her resignation speech written for Wednesday. My assessment may not apply if Pelosi is not in touch with reality.
