Oh yes indeed. Assault is an attempt. Battery is a completed assault. You swing at someone, that’s battery. You connect, that is battery. Battery is the application of force, however small, in a rude and angry manner.
It was battery, plain and simple.
Not even the WH is calling it an assault.
