SAN ANTONIO - To better understand why the migrant caravan wants to reach the United States, the Rev. Gavin Rogers, associate pastor of Travis Park United Methodist Church, traveled to Mexico City last Friday as they were preparing to continue their journey.
“Everybody around me, they don’t call it a caravan. They call it an exodus, which is kind of a Biblical term if you think about it,” Rogers said.
Rogers said he wanted to hear their stories of rampant violence, corruption and poverty “that are often untold and misunderstood.”
He asked, “What would you do?”
Wanting a better life has a different meaning for the people in the caravan than it does in the United States.
“Really that means they just want to live. They want a life. They want to feed their family. They want to provide them shelter and education," Rogers said.
He said the group of 300 that he joined at one point broke away from the caravan to go their own way. As of Monday morning, they had reached Guadalajara after catching a ride on top of a large flatbed truck hauling huge steel beams.
“People started crawling, standing on top of the beams, under the beams, the cracks and crevices,” Rogers said.
He said it was just one of six modes of transportation that they took, even riding in the back of dump trucks.
He learned that many of the migrants are Christian evangelicals who were converted by American missionaries.
“We evangelize and we love thy neighbor as thyself. These are the same folks,” Rogers said.

This pastor and the church he goes to is what most modern churches are these days. Almost all of them are like this. They might as well call them “progressive churches”.
He always wanted to hitch hike across the country, sort of a belated adolescent adventure.
Or “feel good” churches.
Youth pastors keep kids entertained. They are, instead, lead them from adolescence into maturity. Church isn’t for competing with television.
There are roads all over south and central America leading right up to our border. Busses can bring people all the way up from the tip of South America right to our front door. It would take a matter of days or a week and the passage wouldn’t be that expensive. Consider that today you can take a plane from any country in the world and be at the border in a matter of hours. This clown does not know the trouble he is causing.
Let us all pray that President Trump gets reelected and has enough people to support his policies.
This guy is a pastor and I am a Pope. He wants to hear their stories of rampant violence, corruption, and poverty. He omitted disease. All these “stories” are coming to the U.S. “They just want to live.” That is true. We all just want to live: Christian evangelicals as well as MS-13 members. These men (the vast majority are men unless you use the Swedish method of classifying 40 year-olds as children) have left their wives, mothers, daughters, and girlfriends behind to deal with the “rampant violence, corruption, and poverty.” What kind of men are these?
