The kneepad wing of the Republican party.
The fact is, anybody, anybody at all, can go over to the GOP headquarters, sign up and pay a membership fee, and they are Republicans in “good standing”. There is no loyalty oath to becoming a Republican, and the agenda is pretty loose in many of the local organizations. It is expected that the homilies are going to be at least mouthed, even if never taken to heart.
Once in place in the hierarchy, it is surprising easy to rise in the ranks, by large donations and offering voluntary service, in perhaps an initially innocuous role. Then once established, to roll out bits and pieces of the underlying agenda, by stigmatizing those with whom there would be potential disagreement, being at first careful to appear to express doubts, “I know (xxxx) means well, but he is just WRONG on this....” then using all kinds of specious reasoning to “prove” just HOW wrong.
Not an overnight delivery, but slowly, over time, an entire political party can be hijacked, and the differences with any “rival” parties are almost completely obliterated.
It has already happened to the Democrats.
