California GOP ponders way forward after stunning losses

In a speech to fellow Republicans in May, U.S. Rep. Mimi Walters issued an ominous warning about the coming election — California Democrats, she said, were “coming for all of us.”

She was right.

The congresswoman’s stunning defeat Thursday in the heart of Orange County, once a nationally known Republican stronghold, extended a Democratic rout that has seen five GOP-held House seats fall in the state, with another one threatened.

Last week’s election delivered mixed results around the U.S. — Republicans held the Senate, Democrats seized the House — but in California voters turned the state an even deeper shade of Democratic blue.

With Walters’ loss to newcomer Katie Porter, Democrats will hold a 44-9 edge in U.S. House seats, with another Orange County GOP seat in peril. The county was once home to President Richard Nixon and was considered a foundation of the modern conservative movement, gaining the moniker “Reagan country.”

Democrats are on track to hold every statewide office — again. And there wasn’t even a Republican on the ballot for U.S. Senate.

“The California Republican Party isn’t salvageable at this time,” concluded Kristin Olsen, a former Republican leader in the state Assembly.

“The Grand Old Party is dead — partly because it has failed to separate itself from today’s toxic, national brand of Republican politics,” she wrote in a column on the website CALmatters.

Shawn Steel, one of California’s two Republican National Committee members, said the state party has “reached the point of desperation.”

“The party’s problems have been around longer and run much deeper than any one person. From money to grassroots organization, California Republicans are completely outmatched,” Steel wrote on the Washington Examiner website.

A generation ago, the state was once a reliable win for the GOP in presidential elections. And in Orange County, largely white, conservative homeowners delivered winning margins for Republicans year after year.

The GOP in general and many rank-n-file continue to ignore or like to pretend that race/ ethnicity is not a factor.

In 1950 CA was approx. 90% non-Hispanic white today is somewhere in the neighborhood of 60% or less and decreasing rapidly as is the country.

Do you realize that without the California congressional delegation, Republicans would control the House?

California should not have 53 House seats. Many states have one.

This is well beyond politics.

Sodom will be destroyed by earthquake, fire, and tsunami.

The people of California who voted D will reap the consequences of their stubborn sin.

Another never-Trumper

White, right leaning, suburban woman voted for Democrats this cycle.

You also had 40 retirements on the GOP side and a purposely inept establishment GOP led by Paul RINO.

It is interesting that the GOP is vanishing in CA at the same time it is basically going extinct in NY, where I grew up.

It’s certainly racial in part - only whites vote against their own interests, and there are fewer and fewer of them.

For starters, get rid of McCarthy as minority leader.

On the contrary. The republican party has drifted so far from it’s tenets that a good percentage of conservative voters feel...what’s the use in voting republican?

Illegal aliens: voting for the people Americans won’t.

We’re on our third generation of Americans educated by school systems targeted by leftists in the 1960s in order to achieve this very outcome. Today’s children’s parents made their way through the indoctrination centers, and unless they managed to maintain or obtain a degree of rationality, they are lost utterly. The children will be sacrificed voluntarily by their own parents.

Put an end to voter fraud, if did this the dems wouldn’t win another election except within their urban inner city strongholds.

The truly sad thing is that Californians voted to protect themselves with prop 187. The ruling elite brushed that vote off the table.

There is the problem. If we don’t take back our country from this invading scum we will never be great again.

If you live in San Diego or Orange County and you’ve watched handouts to illegals run rampant under demonrat rule while your property, sales and gas taxes have all increased why WOULDN’T you move elsewhere. The difference between California and the nation as a whole is you can’t vote with your feet. I suppose you could pull a Miley and threaten to move to Belize or somewhere but there’s still no country with as many individual rights as the US.

We see this across the country: the left is making one party states in places like New Jersey (voted for Reagan by landslides twice); Connecticut (where Bush Sr. won); Vermont (used to be reliably Republican before the hippies and New York exiles moved in); Illinois (total control at the state level). What is the consequence of this - at the state levels, these are three of the five states that have the worst budgetary problems in the country.

It’s certainly racial in part - only whites vote against their own interests, and there are fewer and fewer of them.

But only in part. Republicans were repeatedly warned that failure to repeal and replace Obamacare would saddle them with the blame for it even though they never wanted it and didn't cast a single vote for it. So the Stupid Party did what it always does and fired directly at its feet by not only failing to repeal and replace, but also leaving themselves open to attack concerning pre-existing conditions. The RATS had a field day out on the campaign hammering Republican candidates for out of control premiums and not covering pre-existing conditions even though they're still covered.

Worse yet, it wasn't a last minute strategy of the RATS to do this, but a sustained drumbeat early on that was never answered in any way despite hard evidence it was taking a serious toll. Republicans didn't say they inherited the mess and got no cooperation from the RATS in fixing it nor did they say pre-existing conditions are still covered. They didn't even think to go in the completely different direction of defending their House majority by pointing out all the RAT promises other than endless investigations and impeachment against the President and Justice Kavanaugh were nothing more than empty promises because the President would veto all of their garbage.

They just stood still in the middle of the ring with their hands at their sides, offering their chins for repeated shots to the head. And if that wasn't enough, they made sure they had no strategy for countering voter fraud by completely ignoring it. The results are obvious as race after race now is being snapped up after Election Day. Another fine job across the board by the RNC and the so-called Congressional leadership.

It’s past time to relieve California of all representation in the House and Senate. It’s far too extreme to be part of these United States. One of their reps wants to nuke citizens if they don’t give up their constitutionally guaranteed right to own firearms.

It’s the right thing to do. Put it on probation to get rid of its illegals and sanctuary cities.
