Let’s start with all federal lands being managed properly, starting today. If that 57 percent had been appropriately taken care of there would be people alive today who aren’t.
I just drove today my regular commute (through the Woolsey fire area). Again, I had chills and tears in my eyes, awestruck at the power of fire. We delivered goods and supplies to a charity and saw how the fire came within a few YARDS of their structure. The air still smells like an old campfire.
As far as the eye can see, there are blackened hills. On both sides of the freeway. And you people back east seeing swaths of red fall leaves in the hills? I saw swaths of glorious red as well. But ours is Foscheck dust.
Im all for getting back to real forest management. Lets make this happen. This is really sad.
“The liberals who set the stage for this destruction are never held responsible.”
To this point, they mostly haven’t been, and it’s way past due. From one of the original leftist morons, Marx, onward to now, stupidity has been propagated in the name of intellectualism.
“it is silly to be saying the state of CA is at fault when these are lands run by people under the authority of President Trump.
I mean Brown and Newsome are nutty enough, but the President can darn well tell a federal agency what to do; start cleaning this mess up!”
President Trump does not manage Federal land they are managed by liberal bureaucrats following rules and policies put into place by leftist environmental extremists.
Both of the recent fires were on private land which is regulated by the Democrats and environmental extremists who run the State of California.
President Trump has attempted to state, clearly, publicly and correctly, what must be done.
I think it was nietzsche who said "The problem with the world is to many stupid people are being educated" - combined with what they are being taught - its a recipe for disasters like these fires.
My wife and I were there vacationing at South Shore of Lake Tahoe that week. We own a timeshare near the ski lift. We saw the flames and smoke as it happened while we were there, horrible disaster for the folks living there. My dad used to take us there on vacation during the 1950s and 1960s, staying in cabins along the shore, simpler times. You're right, after the 1970s all these weird laws were enacted and make things worse. All the cabins are long gone, and people could no longer do anything sensible without a fight, now it's a destination for rich people. The ironic thing is that the forests there are new growth, as they were clear cut during the 1800s when people came west, and nature replenished them since. The liberals act as if they shouldn't be interfered with even though it makes sense to do so.
Are they managed by Federal employees, or not?
Both recent wildfires(the Camp fire and the Woolsey fire) were on private land subject to the regulations of the Democrats and environmental extremists who control California.
again, the fires didn’t start on federal land.
When we were kids the forests were our playground. Now, they are over regulated, or off limits.
Its really quite simple. You either let things naturally take their course and burn, or if people move in, you have to have management. Fire breaks, and logging and brush clearing are a must.
