So if you don’t punish bad behavior it will increase. Who’d a thunk it?

They say fare-beating increased after the Manhattan District Attorney last year stopped prosecuting most cases, a response to concerns that black and Latino violators were being disproportionally singled out.

Giving people a pass on crime because of skin color sounds like racism to me.

So now that they quit enforcing it, expect to see even MORE as the perps become more emboldened to flaunt their immunity from prosecution for crime.

They should just make it free and stop this unwinnable War On Fare-beaters.

I can design a turnstile no one can “jump”, that would have little effect on boarding efficiency. In fact, I have several versions in mind. Some are a little more, uh, rambunctious, than others. ;-)

This is an excuse. The MTA has eliminated a LOT of jobs that have had a direct effect on fare-beaters. There used to be an MTA worker in every station who would control the door that lead to the train platform. Now there are hardly any workers, except for the main stations. Therefore anyone can open the doors from the inside and allow people to simply walk onto the platforms. This is just one way the MTA has saved money on salaries yet now loses money on rides.

Fare avoidance is a fundamentally given right. To prosecute is to ignore the rights of man

Note to Spectrum: Lack of enforcement is to blame.
