“And I’m wondering if the suspension will be in place only until the French government can get new laws passed banning protests.”

This is temporary and just intended to end the present protests. It will probably work as there is most likely no leadership and no funding to keep them going. (Unlike the well funded and organized “protests” in the United States.)

The taxes will be back, but they will be more gradual and designed not to provoke a response.

I knew a Frenchman who owned several businesses in France. He was so upset with unfair taxes that one weekend he closed them all and immigrated to America. He said, “They can have them. Let them run them and pay the taxes.” (My understanding, and it has been a while, you aren’t allowed to close a business in France without paying several months of pay and benefits. He didn’t have the money required to close.)

Now there are some refugees I’d gladly accept: hard-working, law-abiding, taxpaying Europeans fleeing EU tyranny.

They’re waiting, but not for the protesters to get weary. It looks like the French government is working on legislation to infringe on the right to protest.
