Feds Discover Largest Oil, Natural-Gas Reserve in History
National Review ^ | December 6, 2018 | MAIREAD MCARDLE

Posted on 12/06/2018 2:26:32 PM PST by reaganaut1

The federal government has discovered a massive new reserve of oil and natural gas in Texas and New Mexico that it says has the “largest continuous oil and gas resource potential ever assessed.”

“Christmas came a few weeks early this year,” Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke said of the new reserve, which is believed to have enough energy to fuel the U.S. for nearly seven years.

In all, the new reserve is said to contain 281 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, 46.3 billion barrels of oil, and 20 billion barrels of natural-gas liquids, the Interior Department’s U.S. Geological Survey said.

Almost a third of the U.S.’s total crude-oil production comes from the Permian Basin where the reserve was found, making it the biggest shale-oil-producing region in the U.S.

What I always want with reports like this are comparisons to what Saudi Arabia, Iran/Iraq, and Venezuela have.

That’s what would really excite me; replacing their oil with ours, for the next 200 years. It seems those countries never run out!

How much do they have? How do discoveries like this and others compare to their reserves? That’s information I’d like to know (if anyone wants to chime in).

Wow. Guess there were a lot more dinosaurs then we ever imagined./s

Actually, you are on to something. An older theory that has been receiving more attention lately is that "fossil" fuels are not really from fossil remains at all, but have formed from deep-seated biosphere emissions of methane gasses.

I woulda raised me brows at that, but a couple of decades ago miners in the Carlin, Nevada gold deposits were finding vertical vein-like structures composed of hydrocarbons...which cause YUGE problems in cyanide heap leach circuits. These vertical structures cut across sedimentary beds and were, (are?) thought to be deep-seated faults filled with methane, and other hydrocarbon gasses. Check out Thomas Gold, The Deep Hot Biosphere.

Oct article of this survey.

““We emphasize technically recoverable,” she said. “We look at the resources extracted today. We don’t do economically recoverable resource estimates; this is not an in-place resource estimate, it’s not a reserves estimate.””

281 trillion cubic feet of natural gas = 7,957,033,892,352 cubic meters - that’s 7.9 trillion cubic meters

Looks like the US just became the worlds largest natural gas super power by so much that all the others look impoverished ... If my math is correct.

Here’s a partial list of the natural gas super powers as of 2016 in proven reserves (in million cubic meters; 1,000,000 cubic feet = 28,316.85 cubic meters. One trillion=1,000,000,000,000)

1 Russia 47,800,000
2 Iran 34,020,000
3 Qatar 24,530,000
4 United States 13,147,511
5 Venezuela 9,617,000
6 Saudi Arabia 8,489,000
7 Turkmenistan 7,504,000
8 United Arab Emirates 6,091,000
9 Nigeria 5,111,000
10 Algeria 4,504,000
11 Australia 3,500,000
12 Iraq 3,158,000
13 Indonesia 2,875,000
14 Azerbaijan 2,832,000
15 Mozambique 2,600,000
16 Kazakhstan 2,407,000
17 Egypt 2,186,000
18 Canada 1,996,000

20 Uzbekistan 1,841,000
21 Kuwait 1,784,000
22 Tanzania 1,614,060
23 Libya 1,505,000

Just more proof we've been guilt-hoaxed by the idea that oil comes from nonrenewable fossils.

Oil is a renewable resource made from vegetative matter...

... the same way it is made in a laboratory.

Just because I’m slow, I’ll restate your point and you can correct me if I’m wrong.

We just became the world leader by two orders of magnitude, correct? 10^6 to 10^12, right?

yeah - I read that for the largest of the Saudi oil fields to be created, it would have took about the number of dinosaurs dying that would fill up a cube 19 miles long per side!

It sounds preposterous when you actually think about it, it aint no ‘fossil’ fuel, that’s for sure.

The Russians have known for generations that oil is abiotic and does not come from fossils...

I’ll take your word for it ... orders of magnitude ... and to think just a few decades ago they claimed oil and gas were almost gone ...
