Wasn’t there a town in Florida that was such a speed trap that it lost its charter and the police force disbanded?

New Rome OH was also one.

Summersville WV has long been known as a speed trap. They claimed it was about saaaaaafety of course but the ATM shrank quite a bit when two of their officers (who were brothers)were discovered to be involved in a host of illegal activity.

There was It was on U.S. 301, north of Tampa. I can’t recall the name, and there might have been more. There might have been one at Coleman which was on U.S. 301 also.

There was a Borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania called West Fairview which was located along US 11 & 15 just south of the PRR Enola yard.

11 & 15 has a long viaduct which ends on a downgrade...that was the north line of the former Borough. The Borough had a speed trap right at the line. Quite the moneymaker...fun while it lasted.

The town is now an unincorporated village in East Pennsboro Township.

Yep....Waldo and Lawtey FL.
The state got involved finally after 20+ years of complaints.
The Waldo popo was disbanded in 2014 and patrol duties handed over to the Alachua County Sheriff.

Missouri passed the “Macks Creek” law that limited the % of revenue a city can derive from traffic tickets. Macks Creek was a famous speed trap town, no longer has a police department.

Years of public complaints did little, the state legislator getting a ticket got the ball rolling.
