More than 6,000 mailed ballots in Florida went uncounted in November's midterm elections, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Officials at the Florida Department of State informed a federal judge last week that 6,670 ballots that were mailed in ahead of the November 6 midterm election were left uncounted because they arrived after Election Day.

Ballots mailed inside the U.S. must reach election offices by 7 p.m. on Election Day under current Florida law. It is not yet clear why the ballots did not make it to the election offices on time.

According to The Associated Press, the missing ballots came from 65 of Florida's 67 counties.

It doesn’t matter. The future felon vote will ensure Florida remains blue from now on. Trump will have to woo the felons for 2020. Maybe prison reform is a good strategery.

That was my reaction. If they don’t arrive by election day, they don’t count. This is a non-issue. The law was followed.

I agree, although I wouldn’t exempt those in Hospitals.

If a person mailed a ballot on Monday evening, that is before the election on Tuesday, and I really doubt it would arrive on Tuesday, hence it would be late. There are plenty of ways for ballots to not make it on time. So what, the law says get it there on time, otherwise it doesn’t count.

I was stationed in Italy in 1992. I changed my official Home of Record to my wife’s parents address in Florida several years before that.

Anyway, I applied for an absentee ballot in the summer of that year. I didn’t get it until late October—or so I thought.

It was a letter—not a ballot—asking me to confirm directions to her parent’s house!

So I did right there in the USAF APO (post office) and returned it immediately.

I RECEIVED my ballot the week before Christmas.

Bush lost and Clinton had already won.

I vowed then and there to NEVER miss and election again, but the same process happened to me in 1996, this time from Ramstein AB in Germany. Mail was a lot faster here than Italy.

We returned stateside the next year.

I went to the clerk’s office. This was far Northern Florida, almost on the Georgia state line. The clerk was fat, lazy and obviously a democrat. She was sassy and ignorant. I think she lost lots of ballots for military personnel, knowing how they’ll vote. I’ll say no more.

Voters have 30 days to mark their ballot and mail absentee back. If they can’t do that, their vote doesnt count.

Except for overseas and on board vessel US military. Then you get the ballot the week before the election.

Except if all the military are now voting online as FReeper Pepsionice says, that remedies this.

I am deeply troubled by the idea of voting online, though.

If it routes through the Internet, that’s just asking for trouble, fraud and abuse.

“It is not yet clear why the ballots did not make it to the election offices on time”...…….

Tells you all you need to know, our voting system is BROKEN and needs a major overhaul.

so 65 different post offices locations lost 6000 ballots?

In every state there are 1 or 2 counties/districts that have the major democrat population.

So, Democrats only have to commit voter fraud in some 57 out of 3000+ locations.

If these came from all over the state, then there is a good bet they are NOT all democrat votes, and in fact or statistically more likely to be GOP votes.

So the ENTIRE STATE and the quasi-governmental employees of the post office were in cahoots. You’d have to be kwazy too, not to believe that.

Most late Absentee ballots are Military. There has to be a better way for our Military overseas to vote electronically with their Military ID. DL’s are useless since the Likes of Jerry Brown gave them to Illegals.

We have DL voting. And the Dems tried to give them to Illegals along with DL’s. Anyone not a Citizen in the US legally should have a specially marked DL.

These would be more likely to be GOP voters with tie-ins to military bases and were slow-walked by the Rat-run postal unions.

Not necessarily. It is possible that they arrived on time to the office of a county’s supervisor of elections but for some reason remained unopened. Consider the fiasco of Snipes and Broward county.

I never understand why any conservative would put the American Postal Workers UNION between them and their right to vote.
