President Trump on Tuesday engaged in an extraordinary argument with Democratic congressional leaders over his demand for border-wall funding, threatening a government shutdown if he does not get the money.
"I will be the one to shut it down," he told House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) at the White House.
During the contentious meeting in the Oval Office, Pelosi (D-Calif.) repeatedly asked Trump not to discuss the funding request in front of the news media.
"You will not win," Pelosi told Trump.
The meeting was scheduled to be closed to the press but the White House unexpectedly opened it to reporters just as Pelosi and Schumer were arriving at the White House.
The exchanged heightened the sense of drama surrounding government-funding stalemate between Trump and Democrats.
Lawmakers face a December 21 deadline to avoid a partial government shutdown. Republicans and Democrats have been unable to bridge their dispute over how much money to provide for Trump's border wall.
Democrats are offering $1.3 billion for border fencing and barriers, short of Trump's $5 billion request.
Nancy doesn't like Donald controlling the narrative. That's the role of Democrats.

Dems want open borders for VOTES..that simple. They need to replace the current voter base with minority voters so they can keep power forever. Give illegals as much food stamps, welfare, and health care and and all they want in return is their vote

He needs to be asking why the democrats are working so hard not to stop drugs? Don’t they care about Americans who are dying from the opioids brought across an open border? Are they on the take from the drug cartels? What other reason could it possibly be for them not to support stopping drugs from congress across ?
THat’s all well and good - and we sense a tiny taste of victory. Unfortunately - even when the Republicans have the majority - they almost always forget their backbone. And considering the GOP swamp has been tepid at best in supporting Trump on anything - and this being a lame duck session of Congress, I wouldn’t be surprised if Republican House members let Trump swing in the breeze through the end of the year.
Seriously - I have ZERO confidence in House Republicans taking a stand in their waning weeks of the majority position.
And just wait until after the new House is sworn in - I wouldn’t be surprised if brand new impeachment proceedings are filed within the first few days. Doesn’t matter that Trump has done nothing of an impeachable level. Democrats have wanted Trump’s blood since before he was inaugurated (remember - “we will impeach” was one of their battle cries in the very days following his election.
NO US President has faced the brutal attacks as Donald Trump. Indeed, not even Richard Nixon faced the never-ending, pre-inauguration hate and attacks as Trump.
And sorry, no-backbone Republicans carry a great deal of the blame. It’s why I refused to contribute to the GOP as a whole.
Hmmm, I seem to recall Nancy saying something similar back in 2016 about Trump's presidential run...
He owns the debate if he makes this about the Democrats refusing to secure the border.
I would have shut Chuck and Nancy down by saying, 'Any death of an American citizen by an illegal alien is blood on the hands of you and the Democrats'.
