TSA’s force all people flying into the US to go through a checkpoint, and they must have a passport to enter into the USA. Ships coming into ports must have the passengers go through the same thing. You must be consistent, either everybody has to have a passport, or they don’t. Make up your minds: Security or open borders

not being a public burden was a requirement for permanent residency (green card) back in my day. When was it removed?? Also, a round-trip ticket for visas were required.
Almost every civilized country requires Visa applicants to show they have enough money to live on.

When I brought my foreign-born wife to the US, I had to file paperwork agreeing to reimburse the government if she became a financial burden to the US - welfare, food stamps, medicaid, etc. I signed, and 30+ years later she’s a US citizen still working as a nurse.
But why was that expected of me and my wife, and no one who just crosses the southern border illegally?
