Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said Thursday that the Senate Intelligence Committee has made "quite a few referrals" to special counsel Robert Mueller of cases where witnesses questioned in the panels Russia probe were suspected of lying, adding he expects there will be more.
Weve made quite a few referrals, Burr, who chairs the Senate panel, told The Hill on Thursday afternoon. I wont get into the numbers, but where we have found criminality, we have made those referrals and Im sure that theyre not the last."
The Senate GOP chairman first revealed in November that the committee had referred cases of suspected lying to Mueller as the panel investigates Russian interference and whether members of the Trump campaign coordinated with Moscow.
His latest comments come after President Trumps former personal attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty last month to lying to the House and Senate Intelligence committees about plans to build a Trump property in Moscow.
Cohen, who also agreed to cooperate in Muellers sprawling investigation, has admitted to lying to Congress in order to minimize Trumps connection to the proposed project and to limit the ongoing Russia probes.
The former Trump lawyer was sentenced to three years in federal prison on Wednesday for other crimes and will serve a two month-sentence concurrently for lying to Congress.
A committee aide told The Hill that the panel did not refer Cohens case to Mueller. Instead, Mueller was able to review the transcript from Cohens interview with the committee in October 2017 after obtaining consent from Cohens attorney, the aide said.
The Senate panel has interviewed a slew of witnesses behind closed doors in its Russia investigation over the course of nearly two years, but lawmakers have signaled that they are not finished with the probe.
The panel has requested to interview Cohen again, among others. Burr said Thursday he is fairly confident the probe will wrap up in spring of next year.
Its just a question of how long it takes us to wrap up the remaining folks that we need to interview and those that we need to call back, Burr said.
It is unclear who the committee believes may have lied during their testimony, or how many referrals the panel has made to the special counsel.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the incoming chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said after Cohens plea that he believes others lied in their testimony before the House panel in its now-defunct Russia probe.
Since Cohen pleaded guilty, some attention has been paid to the transcript of September 2017 testimony from Donald Trump Jr., President Trumps eldest son, before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Trump Jr. told lawmakers then that the discussions about a possible Trump Tower Moscow within the Trump Organization faded away I believed at the end of 14 and certainly did not take place in 2016.
Those details conflict with Cohens account to Mueller. According to court filings in the case of Trumps former lawyer, the discussions continued as late at June 2016, at which point Trump was the presumptive Republican nominee for president. Cohen also briefed Trump and members of his family about the project, prosecutors said.
An attorney for Trump Jr. did not immediately return a request for comment.
The only reason the repuks kept the senate is because Trump worked hard for them. Now they are stabbing him in the back. I have not been a republican since after the election in 2014. But if I were, I’d be changing my registration. The repuks do not represent me.
DickBurr is a Uniparty tick.
NO ONE should be referred to the criminal mueller. he’s the guilty one and cannot be trusted. why do they keep him on the tax dollar payroll and treat him as if he’s legit. He’s the headpin of the most corrupt FBI in our history!
Republicans are too dumb to see what is right under their nose? What are you there for? It sure isn’t for the people!
Start with Comey.
Burr is corrupt. He chairs the committee in name only. The real chair is Warner. Burr should be voted out next time he is up. He is totally worthless and a member in good standing of the deep cesspool of Washington D.C.
Agree, the Repukes are spineless and worthless. Worse still they have repeatedly stabbed Trump (and us) in the back. They don’t deserve our votes.
After Trump is gone, the Republic will be dead.
That's it! My next computer's going to be AMD.
Screw the Fake News Hill, a demonRat scum rag.
The fix is in. Trump is alone.
Burr is Mark Warner’s little butt-boy.
Sending their own lies?
Burr is a back stabbing traitor and worthless POS.
Weasels!! One and all!!!
it doesn’t say Burr has referred Donald Trump Jr., but nothing would surprise me.
13 Dec: Youtube: 9:33: Tom Fitton: Pardon Flynn and Investigate Clinton Foundation!
This morning, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton appeared on “Mornings on the Mall” on WMAL to discuss the targeting of Michael Flynn by the Mueller probe.

I wonder if the re-education camps will open? Under the Hildebeast, I think they would have.
It seems to me the referrals should be to the Attorney General and the AG either sends them to Special Counsel or investigates the case within the Department. The choice of who investigates should be the AG’s, not the Senate’s.
The Hill is lying or clueless or both. Trump Jr was referring to a different set of negotiations and made that clear in his testimony. Various media have lied about the testimony to implicate Trump, e.g. NPR Blatantly Lies About Donald Trump Jr.s 2017 Senate Testimony FR thread.
What is going on?
Is Mueller the new DOJ? Mueller is operating completely outside of USConstitutional authority. A _special_counsel_ of DOJ _CANNOT_ have more authority than the AJOTUS. Under _what_ legislative law are these proceedings? There cannot be executive branch activity without lawful authority. Are we under martial law?
WAKE UP USA !!!
WAKE UP POTUS!!!
Return to USConstitution, or we and USA, will perish.
