On Nov. 20, Commissioner MaryEllen Elia issued guidance empowering local school boards to evaluate private schools and to vote on our right to continue educating our students.
The state government now requires private schools to offer a specific set of classes more comprehensive than what students in public schools must learn. Our schools must offer 11 courses to students in grades 5 through 8, for a total of seven hours of daily instruction. Public schools have less than six hours a day of prescribed instruction. Private-school teachers will also be required to submit to evaluation by school districts.
At a press conference announcing the new guidelines, a reporter asked Ms. Elia what would happen if a yeshiva didn’t alter its Jewish-studies emphasis to conform to her mandate. She responded that parents “would be notified they need to transfer students” in as little as six weeks. And if they didn’t? “They’d be considered truant, and that’s another whole process that gets triggered.”
Government may have an interest in ensuring that every child receives a sound basic education, but it has no right to commandeer our schools’ curricula.

The new guidance should offend people of all faiths, and others are speaking out. The New York State Council of Catholic School Superintendents recently told Ms. Elia that they reject the guidance and are “directing all diocesan Catholic schools not to participate in any review carried out by local public school officials.” We expect others will join them.
While these new guidelines affect all religious schools, we know they were directed at the yeshiva system in particular.

Don’t understand why Jews are complaining about this? You vote, in high percentages, for totalitarian communists at at all levels of government, and you are getting what you voted for.

Ever since the Left discovered Fundamentalist Protestant Zionism (and thus picked the moslems to be their new favorite "'oppressed' minority"), Orthodox Jews have been increasingly thrown under the bus.
And I find it funny that you don't notice that the catholic schools are complaining as well.
Something a lot of observant Jews have found out too late since 1848. Nobody hates God more than a JINO who worships a "democratic" all-powerful state.
The Catholics are even more hypocritical. They sold their souls to the state government in New York years ago.

All the private schools in New York should object, and simply refuse to cooperate.
The reason for private schools is to inculcate private religious values.
When the state makes that illegal, it’s time to move (or resist).

If as the article states, the requirement is in excess of what secular students are required to receive, then it is a clear violation of the 1st and 14th amendments.
Generally speaking, leftist Jews tend to go to public schools and they tend to vote for totalitarian communists.
Generally speaking, conservative Orthodox Jews tend to go to private school (yeshiva)and they tend to vote against totalitarian communists.
It is this second group, the yeshiva types, who are being targeted and who are "complaining".

Orthodox Jews reliably vote Republican.
You’re confusing them with Reform Jews who vote Democrat.
They have different values and they live in different worlds.
Per my post above, which seemed to confuse some folks here. Of course I know there are secular Jews and devout Jews and their general voting patterns differences. Same with Catholics, who suffer the same voting confusion.
My point is, when one chooses to live in Sodom, Gomorrah, or Gotham, you cannot legitimately claim you didn’t know what has been going on around you for many many decades. And, you have no reason to be surprised when the natives eventually get around to coming for you and your children.
It is not right what happen to those in the minority who are not commie, but I never got the contract that said life was fair and just. If one selects of live in a high risk location, your luck will run out sooner rather than later.
It also targets Christian and Catholic schools and any other private schools.
OTOH, they are requiring private schools to provide a better education than public schools have to.

Looks like an injustice, till you discover elsewhere that these schools only speak yiddish, and don’t tach math. Their graduates tend to poverty, and become welfare burdens to the state. Many grads can’t speak english at all.
There seems to be much more to this story.
Every single yeshiva (Jewish day school) needs to REBEL against this and REFUSE to implement a single directive. Then refuse to comply with any directives from the Truancy Board. Let them ARREST Jews en masse, as they sit down in their schools and synogogues and refuse to move, and seize Jewish children from homes and schools. The resulting mass backlash may finally be what is needed to take down Cuomo and DeBlasio’s totalitarian regimes.
