"We are planning our NYEXIT."

My wife (80) and I (85) would be out of here (MD) in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the fact that our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren all live in rural southern MD...

No! Jews who send their kids to private yeshivas would NOT be the cool liberal Jews who vote for Dems!

There is nothing unreligious Jews hate more than a religious Jew. I get more sh** for keeping kosher FROM JEWS than I have ever heard from non Jews.

Given that it’s New York, though, they’re getting what most of them voted for.

That would be equivalent to claiming that observant, faithful Catholics are getting what most of them voted for because homosexual marriage and abortion are currently the law of the land. One could further castigate them for choosing to live in certain communities to be close to family (remember the commandment to care for elderly parents and relatives) and parishes.

The truth is that the more observant Jews and Catholics have more children than average, and sacrifice to send those children to religious schools in order to continue their faith lives espousing sexual purity, holy matrimony, and fruitful religious families.

I don't deny the fact that faithful Catholics suffer at the hands of the CINO crowd who mostly vote democrat. It's a fact of life, just like with the people in the article.

Faithful Catholics have more children and often don't have the means to send their children to a decent Catholic school even if there's one anywhere near them. Their children suffer due to the fact that their "fellow Catholics" don't take their faith seriously.

What's your point? The majority of the population, whatever faith they claim, believe that social norms are more important than their faith. Reality is reality.

What's your point?

The religious, Jews and Catholics, are victims of the ungodly. It is cognitive dissonance to blame the godly for what the ungodly do to persecute them.

Aren’t the Orthodox Jews mostly conservative? And aren’t they primarily responsible for the yeshivas?

Do you have citations? I don’t know anything about yeshiva curricula.

Yeshivas are tax-funded schools that teach nothing except religious text to prepare their students, all boys, to become rabbis. No science. No English. No math, history, etc. Only the Torah.

Problem is, only about 5% of Yeshiva graduates actually become rabbis. The other 95% are virtually unemployable. Indeed, most wind up on government assistance. The Hasidic village in Rockland County, is the poorest in New York with a 70 percent poverty rate.

Sound like Madrassas!

Another thing the Mooselimbs copied from Judaism!

I am willing to bet that the religious school kids, Jewish and Christian alike, outperform public school kids by a wide margin on standardized tests in all subjects.

Yeshivas will outperform public schools on understanding the Torah and nothing else.

Thank you. I wonder how they received tax funds.

I don’t know if it’s true at these NY schools. My son attended an orthodox school for elementary in SoCal and there was no Yiddish at all except for the cool words, lol.

Half the day was in Hebrew and half in English. If you only want your child “stuffed with facts” (some of them actually correct), all of which you child will carry on his person anyway when grown and can look them, up your local public school is where to go.

Kids at religious schools spend a least some time learning the Bible / Torah and how to be a moral person. Some of that beats old fashioned learning as we see when we look at the wondrous graduates of most urban public schools.

I love visiting Southern Maryland and every now and then I think about buying or renting one of those little wood frame shotgun houses by a creek or the Bay but then I remember how the rest of MD is and the whim goes away.

Thank you. Drew68 addressed this in post 52. So there are Orthodox schools which differ from yeshivas.

No, they are not tax funded in New York City. There are some fundamentalists Yeshivot run by Satmar. Even Lubavitcher/Chabad ones don't teach as much secular material as is needed. There is a real issue. But, there are also many Orthodox and Modern Orthodox Yeshivot that provide as secular education as good or better than handful of elite public schools like Styvesant and Hunter. We need a law, but not this law or rule. Yeshiva students should be required to have the equivalent of the same six hours as public school students and should have to take the Regents exam to graduate.
