I’m not an expert on rifles but I’m a little confused by the statement that most rifles come standard with a larger than ten round magazine. Most bolt action hunting rifles carry more than 10 standard?
Most modern sporting rifles (MSR) which are derived from the AR-15 pattern rifle were designed to accept magazines of 30 rounds in 5.56/.223. This is the target of the law. Most/many rifles used for hunting previously (ie 30+ years ago) were bolt action affairs with an integral magazine of 5 or 10 rounds.
Currently MSRs are the more popular rifle in current production. They range in chamberings from 5.56mm to 7.62mm and beyond. This makes them hunting legal in all 50 states to my knowledge.
