I interpreted the Bush sell out on the border the same way. Repubs became highly suspect after that. But like many I know there is no other real alternative that has a modicum of success.
We do seem doomed. The Potus has fought against great odds, (and his own bumbling in terms of personnel and his ignorance as to the ways of the deep swamp) but he soldiers on, as so we must.
