Some Senate Republicans are proposing a reauthorization of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in a last-ditch attempt to rescue funding for President Trumps border wall.
As a motion to proceed to the House-passed measure providing $5.7 billion for the border wall stalled on the Senate floor, some Republicans proposed at a private lunch meeting to add protections for undocumented immigrants in order to pick up Democratic support.
I dont see any reason to proceed to a bill that cant pass, said Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.), a Republican who voted against a motion to proceed to the House bill, which keeps 25 percent of government funded until Feb. 8.
Flake said he wants to find a bill that can pass.
I think one that could if were going to reopen this thing to add more money for a wall or steel slats, or whatever you want to call it, then throw DACA in too, Flake said, adding that several colleagues support his position.
Senate Republicans convened a meeting in the Mansfield Room while the motion to proceed to the House bill sat stalled on the Senate floor.

I’d prefer not now, not ever as well. But suspect the longer these illegal alien kids remain in the US, the harder it will be to boot them. So giving the best of them a pass while getting e-Verify, etc. wouldn’t be bad trade overall.
Deport them all.
Honestly, Trump should have taken the DACA deal with the Dems for $25 billion when he had the upper hand. Instead, they tried to reduce the number of legal immigrants & wouldn’t pass a bill unless they did, and the Dems didn’t bite on that.
Fair deal could be:
DACA
TPS people
For:
Wall
Biometric Visa
E-Verify
End Visa Lottery
If we don’t compromise, we get nothing.
You need to pretend you’re a friend if you want to backstab.
DACA was anti-Constitutional originally. Why would be less so, now?
You can’t fix something that’s Illegal from the start
I sure wish they’d work this hard for us.
In last year's budget negotiations, Trump offered DACA amnesty for 1.8 million 'dreamers', but the Democrats in the Senate wouldn't go along.

I don’t support it but also wouldn’t get too upset about it. The truth is that it’s the Democrats who do not want a DACA fix, because it would end any chance whatsoever for “comprehensive immigration reform”, i.e. amnesty for the 20+ million illegal aliens currently in the country. The DACA “kids” are just the poster children for what they really want, and so they don’t want to lose them.
Republicans want to play the “let’s pass amnesty and increase work visas with lower standards for entry into the American job market first then we’ll pass funding on economic and environmental impact studies on the wall before we can do anything” game.
Once we amnesty the DACA, we will never be able to deport their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.
Just say no.
Either would I, as long as it only applies to DACAs and not family members, and they have to have a clean criminal record and be working or in college. Also, don't move the date up to let in more recent arrivals. I'd like to see EVERIFY thrown into the mix, and it could all lead to a long-term solution.
LOL, same shit different shutdown.
Yes.
20% of wall for 20% of DACA.
Or 100% of both.
Not fine by me. There’s a GOP majority and we still need to get 30 million illegals out of the country.
Mitch ought to pass it with 51 votes, but if he won’t Trump should just go ahead and build it with the military as part of his executive powers for national defense.
Trump already offered DACA-time-2. But in return for $25 billion, plus an end to chain migration. And apparently, they need to tighten up the requirements for asylum.
This was offered before and POTUS said a judge’s decision caused the RATs to back out of the deal.
Probably wont work again.
DACA for $25B wall AND the end of Anchor Babies and you have a deal. That’s my offer.
