She could have picked it up from someone on her flight home close quarters AND recycled air!!! If er immune system was down due to over working trying to get home for holiday she was susceptible to anything!!! Such a shame I really liked her family has to be devastated!!!!

The opposite is probably the case. People with very robust, or very weak immune systems are at highest risk of death. In the case of the weak system, they succumb as you would expect. In the case of a robust one, it causes a brutal immune response and the fever and fluid buildup in the lungs kills them.
It’s counterintuitive, but the most likely to survive the flu are you average, everyday, run of the mill middle-aged guys.
This is why the old, children, and very fit people in their 20s drop dead from this stuff.
