(HAT TIP KURT SCHLICHTER) Silicon Valley titans imagined in that peculiar out-of-touch cyberworld of theirs, that they should wield unchallenged power over what we can and cannot say and think. Parroting the term private companies (when they're actually publicly-held companies with Annual Reports) was supposed to protect them from conservative pushback. Hah. Look for all sorts of fun initiatives to curb their power.
"Say it isnt so."

Exactly. How does anyone keep a straight face when they say a company with no tangible assets and has never paid a penny in dividends is worth more than $380 billion? LOL.
To quote one astute investor's take on many of these companies:
"I wouldn't invest a nickel in a company whose entire business can be replicated by a bunch of guys working in a garage over a long weekend."

The serfs are rebelling.
The photo of the cop killed by the illegal alien keeps getting pulled, so the “filthy rabble” have redoubled their efforts to post it about every 5 minutes.

Unfriended everyone and unliked/unfollowed everypage.
Still have account because of a couple of college parent groups. In a few years I will completely delete my account.
Took the FB apps of my phone several months ago.

I deleted every post I ever made, all the way to the beginning.
Took some time, though.............

I found FB to be a useful tool for community interaction up here in rural Idaho. But, I said something their mods didn't like during the election season and was banned for life.
They have no customer service, so I could never find out why or make an appeal. When I sat down to to do some Christmas shopping on line I found out my Amazon account has also been disabled ...weird.

The Fall of the House of Usher
DURING the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of country; and at length found myself, as the shades of the evening drew on, within view of the melancholy House of Usher....

Why not a paid service instead of Facebook? For a tiny fraction of the cost of telephone service, we could have a service that wasn’t plagued by ads, and which protects our privacy.

Not a private company, a publicly-traded corporation answerable to stockholders and the SEC for malfeasance.
Not a closed platform, an open platform answerable to consumers for violating Section 230 liability protection.
