Wondering if a crowdfunding campaign could provide interest free loans to CONSERVATIVE government workers to be paid back immediately when they receive backpay.

It is very hard to fire a government worker. However, if essential employees do not show up they can be fired. It could be an opportunity to purge the government of its massively left-leaning workforce.

right now the people who handle the payroll, hiring, training, etc in direct support of our frontline men and women manning the border are furloughed. Those are essential functions, but not exempt. Those functions can be delayed but not eliminated.

That is odd. The Defense Appropriations Bill was actually passed last fall. No CRA’s for Defense. So all defense civilians should be working. There is also a provision for declaring a national emergency by presidential fiat and placing the Coast Guard into the Navy. The President can also declare any federal function to be essential such as any federal law enforcement activity he desires. The powers of the Presidency are enormous. DJT just has to use them and defy the rats to try and do anything. This would include setting aside any judicial attempts to stop this action. Just declare ‘An Unlimited National Emergency’ a la FDR did before the US was in WW2. The rats want to play war without shooting give them what they want. And use the Bully Pulpit to stoke national rage against the unpatriotic, seditious rats.

President Trump is indeed a different animal. I think he knows from his years in business that if you walk back on you position (i.e. “read my lips, no new taxes) the wolves will tear you apart.

He holds all the cards in the issue of a “partial shutdown”. 75% of the government continues as is until Sept. Congress has not passed a bill for him to sign or veto. As long as the Senate does not consider anything coming from the House that does not include funding to build some of the wall he justs sits there saying “I’m here waiting for the Congress to give me something”.

I do hope he stands firm and adds some backbone to the average Republican who will fold like a cheap suit as soon as the press/TV says ‘boo’.

Just my 2¢

If it is within his power, President Trump should eliminate both of those departments.

the ONLY reason for a centralized Federal Gov’mnt is to maintain national borders and international trade.

If DC won’t do it-its up to the border states to do so-with the help of other states adversely impacted by the sieve we call the present border.

If Fed.gov can’t/won’t perform one of its elemental functions, well then why let it re-open?

We aren't under Defense, we're under Homeland Security. That funding bill is still pending.

I'd like to see Trump offer to cut the Department of Education by 10 billion, freeing up 5 billion for the wall and 5 for reducing the deficit. They are getting 63 Billion this year. Get folks to ask themselves if they could survive with the Department of Education in DC getting "only" 53 BILLION dollars! And ask, "Is public education better now than it was in 1978?!"

I've defended government workers here. Most I know are military related, plus I know several folks in the Border Patrol. But I honestly cannot think of a single way the education in the USA has improved since the Dept of Education was started by Jimmy Carter in 1979! That is 63 billion that ought to disappear today!

Perhaps now would be a good time for someone in our government, to actually list what is funded and what is not funded, right now. Please spare the forest, a link to a data farm will suffice. Lol.

I was under the impression that some of those, as was the DoD, were already covered under pre-existing budgets done several months ago. The 25% are the ones that no budget was done for. The EPA, NEA, Dept of Education, etc. Nobody is going to miss those agencies.

What compromise was offered?

Mick Mulvaney (OMB director) suggested less than the 5 billion and I've heard 2.5 billion number and this has been on the Table for some time. Trump can't and shouldn't bid against himself. To say neither side has budged is disingenuous.

Trump has never mentioned anything but the full $5 billion. Mulvaney and others can suggest all they want but Trump is the man in charge.
