LAS VEGAS CES 2019 kicks off this week, which of course means that close to 200,000 tech heads are swarming into Sin City to ogle the latest crop of gadgets and were not necessarily talking about stripper robots.
Talking appliances... from basic items like speakers and alarm clocks, to quirkier fare like fridges and toilets.

So, they call each other “O God” too?
Oh, what a big boy you are to go poo poo in the potty!
Uh, no thanks.
Even the most basic toilet in Japan will let you push the handle in one direction for a no. 1, the other direction for a no. 2 and clean water which flows in from the top to let you wash your hands before it performs the flush.
Other options range from heated seats to bidets to streams aimed at your backside to minimize the use of toilet paper to even medical analytical options for a no. 1 or even a no. 2.
~OMG Dave, did you eat a dead horse? You're choking me...~
Call me when they have a toilet which plunges itself.
A talking toilet warning you need to wipe better?
Oh phew....said the toilet.
Heated seat....ah yes....says an Upstate NYer
I know where about 10 80s era toilets are sitting in a unused building. They will get tossed someday.
Congress.
I heard those toilets are in the $9k ballpark. Who spend that kind of money on a toilet?
I miss my parents 70’s era toilets. I don’t want a talking toilet, I want a power flush! Thank goodness there’s only one “low power energy efficient flush” in the house. The other two (which are the ones we use) are closer to full power. Got to recommend having his and her bathrooms for a happy marriage.
Can’t stand those elongated seats though.
Your very basic model (left for no. 1 flush, right for no. 2, handwash in the middle) cost little more than our basic $200 model and pays for the difference in less than four months with the water savings alone.
Your basic seat model with the basic function options like seat heating, washing the tush, spray jetting the anus, etc.) is maybe $200 more and most of the better places can't even rent without it.
During my last visit there in 2016, these were even in some of the better public restrooms, including at least one train station.
When we moved away in 2002, most train stations were icky and very basic, some even lacking sitters, most lacking toilet tissue which was available only in a vending machine for 50 yen or so per single pack (about 1/10th the size of our standard roll).
Now most of them will have at least the heated seat.
I love the grammar...
“This year, brace yourself for high-tech breast pumps and headbands that can monitor whether your teenagers are really concentrating on their homework.”
Imagine that! A breast pump that can monitor if teenagers are doing their homework!
What will they think of next?
Commas?
ABC-TV is at CES???
Al Bundy Ping. Thanks for his views about toilets which are entirely correct. I wonder if we can finally see a talking Ferguson at this years show?
