Seems to me that any money in excess of what they budget is none of their business, especially if that money is ear marked by the people into a "build the wall" category on their form 1040.
To clarify, the whole argument is whether or not we the people are allowed to contribute donations to a particular cause and have the government use it in that way only. Folks are donating to a Go Fund Me for this already and whether or not that money can be used is under debate. My senator’s office (Kennedy, La )told me this morning that the Go Fund Me could NOT be used by the government. They also told me that donations to a wall fund set up by the government could not be done. They were flat wrong in my opinion because we already have this mechanism set up in the tax form that allows excess contributions to be made to pay on the national debt. This is the people contributing money to the government and dictating where it is to be spent. To me, the wall is a PERFECT fund to be set up to allow the people a voice that currently is not being listened to. What would Congress be scared of? That we the people actually would fund the damn wall without a penny from them? This needs to be pushed.
To clarify, the ‘it’ refers to a ‘wall’ not the money for a wall. Merely having a wall is not sufficient - it is a tool which must be actively used to keep unauthorized people out. Allowing fake asylum claimants through a ‘big beautiful door’ or not supporting deportation of those who do breach it, or allowing visa overstays, or myriad other enforcement failings would render it useless.
