WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump signaled Friday that a partial government shutdown now in its record-tying 21st day could drag on for a while as he said he will not move "fast" to declare a national emergency to access border wall funds.
The president told reporters during a border security event in the White House's Cabinet Room that he has the "right" and legal authority to make the move, which would allow him to access Defense Department dollars and shift them to the construction of a border barrier. But he made clear he plans to continue to press Democrats to give in to his demands before he issues such a decree.
"I'm not going to do it so fast," he said of an emergency declaration.
After House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., earlier Friday on the floor criticized House Majority Leader Steny B. Hoyer of Maryland and House leaders for sending members home rather than keeping them in Washington as the shutdown dragged on, Trump called on both chambers to "come back and vote."
"We want Congress to do its job," Trump said. "What we're not looking to do right now is a national emergency."

Can you say,"Recess Appointments ho!"
Keep it shut down for all I care. It’s just saving “some” money. It’s about the only way for any spending cuts.
He just wants to make the Democrats hold a bag of sh!t for a while.
...... The President knows the media like the back of his hand so I doubt he would issue an Executive Order on a Friday anyways ..... He would wait until Monday or Wednesday for maximum media effect.
Shutdown could drag on as Trump wont move fast on national emergency for wall

That is the lie.
Shutdown could drag on as Pelosi/Shumer wont Protect the Country.
Not IMO. I think they’re doing a deal that won’t be announced together, as it would upset Trump’s base too much. So first comes the announcement that for something or other, such as the free healthcare for children he announced this past week, Trump gets some more funds for fence repair.
Then, comes the subsequent “negotiations” that will include DACA amnesty, citizenship for H1-B (Trump already tweeted that out today), etc.
no wall, but Trump will win the game of endless finger pointing. yay.
Lyin’ SacaBeeStalin....
He knows the hack Judge(s) already has the injunction written. He knows it will drag on and on until it reaches the SC. He does not know if he will win at the SC especially with Roberts racing to the left. I give the odds 50/50 at best that there will be any wall/steal barrier.
Dunno.
AP reporting White House preparing for shutdown at least through the end of Feb.
I don’t believe it any more than I believe RBG is healthy.
I like the way you think! lol
Let him build the case for shaving 20% reduction in government Workforce. Over time it will show that they are not necessary and things probably work better without them.
Indeed. Lot of complaining from Dems about 800,000 "workers" not getting money. That includes fed workers at parks. A bunch of non-essential stuff built and maintained that could be done without. For instance, here in the SF Bay Area we have the GGNRA (Golden Gate National Recreation Area).
Lots of expensive signage and displays put up with tour guides to "educate" visitors about sea gulls and birds, etc. It's a beach and grassland with some sand dunes. It was working fine before being declared a national park, people knew how to use beaches and parks without government "guidance". Now hundreds of millions of dollars thrown at it, for the sake of "recreation". The government shouldn't be in the business of running amusement parks! Let the shutdown continue, and get rid of the waste.
Maybe he is buying his time till Ginsburg retires
There is a new caravan forming, perhaps he wants to wait for it before announcing a national emergency
Yep - President Trump has therm over a barrel and they actually brought the barrel and assumed the position all by themselves....love it.
