Rand Paul Heading To Canada, Land Of Universal Health Care, For Surgery

Ardent foe of socialized medicine Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is planning to undergo hernia surgery this month in Canada, where medical care is publicly funded and universally provided.

Paul, who is not covered by the Canadian health care system, will pay out of pocket for the operation, an aide told Politico. The surgery is set to take place at Shouldice Hernia Hospital in Ontario, a “world renowned hospital,” the senator’s spokeswoman Kelsey Cooper said.

Information about the surgery, scheduled for Jan. 21, was revealed in court papers in Paul’s civil lawsuit against neighbor Rene Boucher, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

According to Paul, the surgery — which will cost as much as $8,000 — is linked to injuries he suffered in 2017 when Boucher attacked him as he mowed his lawn. Boucher pleaded guilty last year to attacking Paul in a dispute over yard care and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

The headline fails to mention that he is going to a private facility.

This is a privately-owned hospital.

It doesn’t matter if it’s privately owned. That’s beside the point. The point is, an official of this country feels the need to leave the country for better healthcare. Maybe in KY yeah. But not elsewhere making Canada the better option.

Not to mention the optics of spending $8k when you have insurance, people aren’t working and millions don’t have healthcare.

A free American getting to choose (and pay) for himself what health care he believes is best for himself

Something wrong with that?

Mr. Paul will pay a lot less for his surgery in Ontario than he would in the states.

Strange....he is 100% covered by his Senate health Care.

I assume he chose an expert in the field with a proven surgical history.

Why is he a putz?

He’s going to a PRIVATE clinic. Not a state run hospital. He’s going on his own dime. He made his choice to see a top specialist.

Inform yourself next time.

For a hernia? It’s like getting your tonsils out. He’s a freak. This is an odd story all around.

Who are these millions without healthcare?

Leaving the country for healthcare is not uncommon because there are places that are cheaper and better. Spending out-of-pocket is very common even with insurance.

Maybe he is making a statement. No doubt his assailant will be charged for some of the costs. And Paul can use his personal experience with Canadian health care to suggest improvements to our own.

He’s going to a completely private hernia repair center that is world class. Not part of the Canadian public health care system in any way.

I have no problem with it and think your assessment foolish.

I’ve heard of plenty of Canadians coming here for care because of doctor shortages, perception of need and wait times. I’ve never heard it the other way around.

What does it say about the state of care in our country if a US Senator leaves for health care? It’s ludicrous.

This is not odd. This is all related to that near death beating he got from that Obama for brains neighbor of his.

Please. Inform yourself before swallowing the lies and Fake News the MSM is throwing out here.

I wish my aunt had gone to this specialty hospital for her hernia surgery. Maybe she wouldn’t have had to have three subsequent surgeries and gotten so tired of life that she went into hospice to die.

It’s like getting your tonsils out.

Not quite, especially if it is tin the median line of the
abdomen between the breast bone and the belly button.

The skill of the surgeon and the suturing system used as well as the skill in suturing is very ,m very important. The screen used can also cause infection if there is stress from exercise.

I’d say Paul chose the expoertise of a surgeon who has a very high success rate of using screens or in surgery with tissue replacement from other parts of the body. That’s my bet.

Remember, we are all free men, and as such, we get to chose what we each think is best.

Just what about this story is a lie? It doesn’t matter why he has the issue. He has the issue. He needs surgery. He clearly can’t find adequate care in the United States. He’s a US Senator.

So he’s leaving the country for a better option. Inform myself? Get lost. What about the above is not accurate?

Go ahead..... I’ll wait.
