We were not at war in Afghanistan since 9-11, unless you mean clandestine stuff. GWB built up to invade Iraq after 9-11 then started on Afghanistan later. (2003-04, if I recall).
Still, for all the anti-Trump bluster, it would be a great talking point if he were the true “peace president” after Obama just mouthed the words. The Trump-haters would love to make the “warmonger” meme stick when, in reality, he’s been just the opposite. Pulling out of those two theatres allows him to redeploy troops to the southern U.S. border and build the wall as part of the national defense effort.
I still say coordinating a wall on Mexico’s *Southern* border that the Mexican government can eventually run would show that the effort is not fueled by racism, improve Mexico’s sovereignty, create Mexican jobs within their borders and blunt the waves of Central Americans trying to reach *our* border. To those without a map, blocking Mexico’s Southern border would be a snap compared to the U.S. - Mexico border.
Hopefully soon we are out of those sh-tholes.
Promises made promises kept. Booyaa!

Build them both.
For real.
We invaded Afghanistan less than a month after 9/11.
Incorrect. Paratroopers were jumping into Afghanistan seizing Bahgram airfield about a month after 9/11- B-52s were in action. Iraq came well afterwards
I assure you regular units of the US Army arrived in Afghanistan in the fall of 2001. SF first but a real presence quickly built up with a major US air cargo and support base being established in Kazakhstan, I think. I was directly involved in the material support of these operations.
