Not that uncommon, especially back in the day of really big state mental hospitals. Same thing happened at the now closed Pontiac State Mental Hospital in Pontiac Michigan about 1967. Big uproar but the perp was never identified, other than he was a negro as the child was mixed race. The woman's husband and her family took the child as theirs and raised it. I wonder how that story turned out. At the least the kid probably had some conflicted feelings throughout life.
