Listening to a caller to Rush a couple of days back, I’m pretty sure there’s a line in the Constitution that allows the President to call the Congress into session under certain circumstances. Not that the Donkeycrat leadership cares that much about what’s in the Constitution . . .
The poorly named “progressives” haven’t cares about what’s in the Constitution since the 19th century. The Democrats haven’t cares since FDR. Sadly the Republicans haven’t really really cared since Mr No Repeal Eisenhower.
Article II, Section 3, US Constitution:
“He [the President] shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; *he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them* . . . “
Congress is already in session.
However, White House officials have been working on a backup plan to have him give the speech somewhere else if Democrats dont let him do it in the traditional forum, the House chamber, on Tuesday.
He only need to call a joint session of Congress starting at noon the day of his speech. That would resolve all legal nuance.
However, that does not mean that everyone would show up at the speech. There are some Dims from some districts that would get away with being absent and their constituency would praise them for it.
But that empty chair over Trumps left shoulder on the teevee will not play well for Nancy.
He should simply give the SOU to the American people in a very large public venue and invite the Congress to either show up or watch it on TV.
No matter what Pelosi does now, she looks like sh!t to 70% of the electorate.
