“That Wasn't Real Socialism”: A Better Way to Respond to the Claim
Fee.org ^ | Saturday, January 26, 2019 | Hugo Newman

If socialists insist that "real socialism" has never been tried, it follows that neither has "real capitalism."

It’s a familiar scene. A socialist and a critic of socialism are engaged in heated debate. The critic invariably raises what the socialist considers a hackneyed and lazy objection: “Well what about what happened in the Soviet Union? Or in Maoist China? Those were socialist states. Are you really endorsing such systems? Don’t they prove that socialism doesn’t work?”

Very enlightening article! I suggest you read even thou it is long it will help explain why socialist are so socialist and how to get thou to them.

I never really appreciated just how much socialist were fixated upon the ideal world as the reason they are unable to come to terms with the real world.

Leftist must be made to understand every generation what they were taught in school is an intellectually dishonest comparison of 'ideal' socialism vs 'real' capitalism. There are no perfect states anywhere. But the imperfect 'capitalist' states completely blow away the imperfect 'socialist' states by almost every measurable metric.

In the 'idea' state capitalism would also blow away socialism not only in its real world imperfect examples but also its 'ideal' world examples.

Capitalism allows the same vote of every citizen socialism promises, it just does it with dollars rather than ballots, and is balanced by contribution rather than a blind presumption of equality, which is why even small scale examples of socialism never really work.

We must focus upon forcing them to fight fairly apples to apples not apples to oranges.

My reply to such (and I have done so) is reference to a statement attributed to Einstein.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and getting the same result, but expecting a different one.”

Socialism will work right after a person gets into a big bucket, grabs the handle, and levitates himself. (Believe me, Occasional Cortex thinks this will work.)

True free market Capitalism is the purest expression of Human Nature ever devised.

The good, bad and ugly.

But mostly good as people are allowed to enter agreements voluntarily and for their own interests.

Today’s Socialism attempts to protect stupid people from being taken advantage of.

It also simultaneously encourages more and more people to be Stupid.

It appears to me the problem is the ones yelling for

That is true, however that is not the argument that will make it thou to a leftist who lives in an ideal world.

You must force them to address capitalism on the same terms as socialism by exposing them to the ideal form of capitalism which offers all the same promises as ideal socialism. Except to the individual without compromise among the group.

‘Ideal’ capitalism beats the tar out of ‘ideal’ socialism. Be case people get what they want not simply what their co-workers want.
You do that and the leftist is forced to cry foul for the same reason you cry foul for what they are currently doing in ignoring real world socialism in favor of ideal world socialism.

The whole point is to get them to recognize the inequality and compare the 2 systems on equal terms.

Socialism, from start to finish, is an assault on the real world; a war on normal motivations, driven by a hatred of the realities of Nature. It is an absurd humanist effort to take over and reverse the ongoing dynamics of Creation.

Socialism is like religion and it is based on faith, not reason. It is very appealing to the disgruntled who really don’t know how good they have it — that their life is better than any other time in human history.

What caused this age of prosperity? Capitalism and technology.

Though capitalism is not perfect the real problem of inequality is not a political problem, but a human nature problem (the pareto effect).

I’ll start with this.

Are Corporate Profits immoral?

Most socialist will say yes.

Some will say no, but there is or should be a limit to how much they can make.

I would ask them if they actually understand what is deemed “profit?”

If they, the socialist, earned more money than they spent, isn’t that also a profit?

I would ask them, “Should you, as an individual, be allowed to Save money?”

Most of today’s Socialist will say yes.

“Is there a limit to how much, you or the individual is allowed to save?”

They will almost all say, No.

The kids that push for socialism are idealist like the people who abuse the position of teaching them the needed skills to work to instead teach them the idealist lies of the socialist system with the false comparison with the problems of the real capitalist system while ignoring the many more problems of the real socialist system.

The idiots may be adherence to a faith but the kids and most liberals are simply idealist chasing a dream of ‘ideal’ socialism unaware that their dream is even more achievable by way of capitalism.

Simply because the only expose to capitalism they have is the real imperfect version of the richest and most successful countries in the world.

The former socialist states know of the evils of real Socialism although even they are unaware of the promos of ‘ideal’ capitalism because we conservatives who alone champion it never speak about ‘ideals’ we are grounded in the real world.

But liberals need their ‘ideal’ dreams to chase it is part of how they are programmed as the dreams and risk takers of our species, thus we need to expose them to our own ‘orange’ the ‘ideal’ of capitalism.

For a honest orange to orange comparison, rather than letting to apple(real) to Orange(ideal) comparisons they currently do.

This is a capitalist liberal from before Marx corrupted them, they did wonderful things to improve our system:

The “definition of insanity” quote first appeared in 1981, in a document published by Narcotics Anonymous. It was a sort of guide book for addicts who trying to overcome their disease, and it warned its readers that, “insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.”

That article makes some good points, but I’m afraid I would never be able to express them as eloquently as the author.

I guess the take-home is to try to get through to the socialist true believer that the only true comparison is imperfect socialism vs. imperfect capitalism. The world itself prevents a perfect system of any type from being implemented.

You are pointing out dishonest characterizations of capitalism by media and school professors. You need to do more to give them an idea of ‘ideal’ capitalist system’s promise.

Their professor and their leftist media are telling them
‘ideal’ socialism(never realized) solves all the problems real world capitalism sometimes overlooks. They are quite dishonest in how they make that argument but the argument itself is also intellectually dishonest in its premius to compare an systems ‘ideal’ to anther systems real implementation.

You can point out real world socialism has even more problems for more people, but real world socialism is no more ‘ideal’ socialism than real world Capitalism is ‘ideal’ capitalism.
The only difference is we never talk about ‘ideal’ capitalism being Conservatives grounded in reality are the only champions.

Real world capitalism always beat real world socialism hands down, but no real world system can ever beat an ‘ideal’ world system unbounded by the laws of nature both human and otherwise.

The missing element is precisely that understanding of the ‘ideal’ of capitalism, and the acknowledgement of it is the only proper comparison for the myth sold to them by media and teacher.

The article tells you how to do this in conversation.

I find that most moronials when demonizing capitalism, there real beef is really with cronyism, and high powered lobbyists, those are mostly on the left. Though they do love cronyists who bilk the taxpayers for billions by permanently destroying thousands of square miles with bird shredders and bird fryers. You ever seen the footprint of a solar farm? It is a crime against humanity all because the powers that be have indoctrinated half the population that the concentration of CO2 might someday climb as high as 0.05%. That is 0.0 % rounded to the nearest percent
